Review current opioid trends and related initiatives, and define pharmacists’ roles.

The RESPOND Toolkit has been designed to enhance opioid safety screening and communication practices in community pharmacy settings. The toolkit is comprised of a three-module online training course and printable materials, which include an algorithm and checklist for on-site use. These resources have been designed to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic and define community pharmacists’ role in addressing it; improve use of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs in daily workflow; and facilitate effective and integrated communication between the pharmacists, patients, and prescribers. Funding provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ 5R18HS024227-02).
The following are several resources you can use to learn more about Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs), current opioid safety public health strategies, opioid prescribing and dispensing guidelines, naloxone administration and educational materials, and alternate pain management options.
